Earphone design

Using Rhinoceros and 3D printing

The assignment was to create a product based on the human body. I used the connection between muscle tissue and tendons as inspiration. This principle I implemented in the connection of an earphone thread to create a durable connection-type.

During this project I learned to model using the modelling program "rhinoceros". This was perfect to create human-like shapes with. The prototype was subsequently printed using the Objet Connex 3D printer. This 3D printer is capable of combining hard and flexible materials in 1 print.

The final result was a prototype of an ergonomic earphone-piece which combines flexible and hard materials for extra comfort and durability. I could conclude that inspiration from nature is very resourceful.
