Hold hands on a distance

Together with a group of master students we designed a new version for The Frebble, a device that enables people to hold hands on a distance. The Frebble is an automated device that sends and receives haptic feedback, mimicing human contact.

During this project we designed the shape of the Frebble to be more ergonomic as well as to have an improved look. Electronics were added that could sense and send a stroking sensation. Heat elements were also added to mimic the warmth of holding hands. A final feature was a double squeeze, making the squeezing sensation more realistic.

We ended up with a fully working prototype that was tested with users. All users experienced a more realistic experience in holding someones hand and feeling their presence.
